After back-to-back defeats, the Burleigh Bears will look to bounce back against Brothers Ipswich this Saturday afternoon in Round 6 of the SEQW Division 1 competition.
After winning 13 consecutive games spanning from April 2018 until April 2019, the Bears have now lost back-to-back games and come up against one of the competition’s best in Brothers Ipswich.
Last week, the Bears fell victim to 2018 runners up West Brisbane, who produced some outstanding attacking rugby league in their 24-16 win, while Brothers have also been in good form, winning three of their last four games.
The Bears will be buoyed by the recent announcement of the SEQ representative teams, with 12 Bears included.
Nine Burleigh players were named in the Queensland SEQ Women’s team to compete in the 2019 Harvey Norman NRL Women’s National Championships, while Burleigh’s Tahnee Norris will be the coach. The tournament will be held at Pizzey Park from May 30 – June 2.
Three more Bears were named in the SEQ Women’s White team, one of two SEQ teams that will compete in the 2019 QRL State Men’s and Women’s Championship Carnival, to be held at Southport’s Owen Park on the same weekend.
Those 12 players will all be pushing for further selection when the first weekend of June rolls around, and the best preparation is to be in form at the Bears.
The Bears look to get back in the winner’s circle against Brothers Ipswich this Saturday afternoon at Blue Ribbon Motors Field from 4.30pm.
