A danger game looms for the top-of-the-table Burleigh Bears Colts when they take on Sunshine Coast this Sunday.
The Bears cruised to a 28-10 win over the Capras last week, their sixth in a succession, but they face a tougher assignment this week if they want to overcome a confident Falcons team.
While Burleigh’s run of six consecutive wins in the longest active winning streak in the competition, Sunshine Coast are nipping at their heels with five straight wins of their own.
That streak includes a tough win over third-placed Townsville (the last team to beat Burleigh) and a seven tries to one thrashing of Ipswich last week.
The young Bears have earned the right to go into any game confident of victory given their recent form, but they will need to respect their opposition in what is likely going to be their toughest test in quite some time.
Coach Jamie Mahon has named an unchanged side for the big clash, although Alofiana Khan-Periera and Tristan Powell who have been selected in the Queensland Under 18s team which will assemble on Thursday ahead of their clash with NSW at Suncorp Stadium next Wednesday.
The Bears lead the Hastings Deering Colts competition with eight wins from ten appearances. They are on equal points with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls but lead thanks to an incredible for-and-against record of +226.
