The Essential Coffee Burleigh Bears will host their annual Pink Day this Sunday afternoon when they face-off against the Easts Tigers at Pizzey Park.
Every year the Bears wear special pink jerseys and dedicate the day to raising money for charity.
“Pink Day is a massive day for us, it will be a really good turnout,” Bears captain Luke Page said.
“I don’t think we’ve lost a pink game in a couple of years. The boys love running around in a bit of pink and it’s a really good cause.”
This year they host the Easts Tigers in an important fixture. Last week’s 32-16 loss to the Sunshine Coast was Burleigh’s first since Round 4 and saw the Bears slip to third spot on the ladder.
Another loss to the Tigers could see the Bears drop down to fourth, and lock Sam Coster said it is important to follow up a loss with a good performance.
“If you look at successful teams, they very rarely lose back-to-back games,” he said.
“Being back home on Pink Day – we just want to make sure we put in a good performance because it doesn’t get any easier against Easts who are a quality side.
“We can see now where the bar is for the top of the competition. I think we weren’t too far away, there were just a few lapses in concentration that just really hurt us. I think we’ll take more positives than negatives out of the game for sure.”
The Tigers currently sit in sixth place and last week broke a three-game losing streak with a 40-22 win over the Northern Pride, but they opened their season with seven wins in their first eight games proving that they are one of the competition’s elite teams.
Kick-off between the Bears and Tigers is this Sunday afternoon at 1.10pm. Channel Nine will be broadcasting the game live.
The top-of-the-table Burleigh Colts team is in action at 11.25am, while the four-time defending champion Bears women’s team is in action against Souths Logan at 3pm.
