Burleigh Bears Hungry to Stay at the Top of the Ladder

The Burleigh reserve grade team moved into first place in the Doug Lipp Cup with another win last week and will be looking to stay on top when they take on Ormeau this Saturday.

Last weekend was their sixth win in a row and took them to 31 points, just one ahead of Mudgeeraba, Tugun and Currumbin who are all tied on 30.

The closeness at the top of the ladder means the Bears can’t rest after six straight wins, they need to keep the roll going and create some distance at the top.

That mission continues this Saturday against Ormeau who sit down in ninth with just two wins to their name this year. These sides last met in Round 6, with Burleigh cruising to a 38-4 victory.

Before the reserve grade game, the Under 20s will run out against Runaway Bay in a crucial Round 12 clash.

They suffered a setback last week, going down 40-16 to the Southport Tigers, but Currumbin’s victory over Runaway Bay kept them within striking distance of third place.

Currently in fourth place, the Burleigh Bears have the opportunity to leap frog the Seagulls into third if they can pick up a win on Saturday.
