The Essential Coffee Burleigh Bears will look to remain unbeaten at home when they take on the Souths Logan Magpies at Pizzey Park this Sunday.
Currently in second place on the competition ladder, Burleigh have built their success this season on an impeccable home record, winning all seven games at Pizzey Park.
They will start favourites to keep that perfect record alive thanks to a come-from-behind win over the Ipswich Jets last week.
Without skipper Luke Page and regular starting back-rowers Hayden Schwass and Jacob Hind, the Bears trailed 14-6 at the break before surging in the second half.
Dylan Phythian was forced into an unfamiliar position on the left edge but delivered a try and 19 tackles in a solid 57 minutes in the forwards.
Jack Buchanan was the leader in a new-look forward pack, delivering 164 running metres, four tackle breaks and 21 tackles while Sam Coster went the full 80 minutes and topped the tackle count with 46 to go along with 126 running metres.
Kurtis Rowe was the hero in the second half, crossing for three tries as the Bears ran down the deficit and secured another win over the Jets, their ninth in their last ten meetings.
This week the Bears face a Souths Logan Magpies outfit who picked up a 36-26 win over the Mackay Cutters last week, their first win since Round 6.
With just three wins to their name in 2019, the Magpies would need a minor miracle to make the semi-finals from here, but that desperation will need to be navigated by the Bears on Sunday afternoon
The Bears will be without Tanah Boyd, who has been selected in the Queensland Under 20s and goes into camp on Thursday, but will regain the services of Page, Schwass and Hind while Brenko Lee also returns to the side at centre.
