The Essential Coffee Burleigh Bears are aiming for their fifth consecutive win when they travel to Piggabeen to take on the Tweed Heads Seagulls this Sunday.
It will be the second time Burleigh have faced off with the local rivals in 2019, with the Bears claiming a 32-4 win at home back in Round 3.
That day, the Bears scored four late tries to blow out the margin, but in reality, it was a tight affair for the majority of the contest.
A typically physical and bruising battle can be expected on Sunday against a desperate Seagulls who have lost four in a row, three of which were by four points or less.
Burleigh’s winning record against the Seagulls extends all the way back to 2015, with the Bears winning the last seven games between the two clubs.
The Seagulls need a win to stay in touch with the top half of the top eight and would love for that win to come at the expense of the Burleigh Bears.
Burleigh are on the opposite end of the form spectrum and notched another solid win against Souths Logan last weekend.
The 12th placed Magpies brought their best to Pizzey Park and even led for much of the contest, but the Bears class and composure came to the fore in the second half as they pulled away for the 30-18 win.
Sam Coster was the stand out in the middle, topping the tackle count with 45 and running for the most metres of any player on the field with 160 in another 80-minute performance at lock.
Milestone man Luke Page also put up 127 running metres in his 150th Intrust Super Cup game while Troy Leo chipped in with yet another try-scoring double taking his season tally out to 18.
Bears coach Jimmy Lenihan has named an unchanged team to take on the Seagulls. The game will be played at Piggabeen Sports Complex at 1.10pm this Sunday afternoon and will be broadcast live on Nine Gem.
The Bears Colts will also be in action at Piggabeen against the Seagulls on Sunday. Their game kicks off at 11.30am.
