SEQW Burleigh Bears will be Playing to Maintain their Four Year Premiership Status this Saturday

The Burleigh Bears will host an elimination semi-final this Saturday afternoon against the Easts Tigers with a place in the SEQW Division 1 grand final on the line.

Four consecutive wins to finish the regular season saw the Bears move up to second place on the ladder which ensures they enjoy the advantage of a home final this Saturday afternoon at 4pm.

Pizzey Park is a fortress for the four-time defending champs, who have won five of the six games played at home this season, including a 12-10 win over the Tigers in Round 2.

While the Bears are in red-hot form, 2019 has been arguably the most evenly matched SEQW Division 1 competition in recent memory and the Bears take on an extremely formidable Tigers on Saturday.

Easts have won six of their last seven games and finished the season with the most points scored and the fewest conceded of any team in the competition.

The Tigers will also be full of confidence given their big win over Burleigh the last time these sides met in Round 9.

While that 32-4 win came against an understrength Bears during the build to State of Origin, it was still the heaviest defeat of the season for Burleigh and a big statement from the Tigers.

Since then, however, the Bears have gone on to win all four of their remaining games with some of their best form of the season.

While the Origin stars returned to the side, plenty of others have had their chance to shine including Keri-Jade Robertson who finished as the competition’s leading point-scorer while SEQ representatives Sasha Mahuika (7) and Kadison-Tyra Robertson (9) were Burleigh’s top try-scorers.

A bye in Round 14 means the Bears will be fresh and ready to continue their hunt for an historic fifth consecutive premiership.
