Essential Coffee Burleigh Bears will be looking to restart their winning streak with a Dolphin Dumping

The Essential Coffee Burleigh Bears return to the field this Sunday afternoon when they host defending premiers Redcliffe at Pizzey Park.

Unbeaten at home this season, the Bears will look to keep their perfect record in tact when they host the resurgent Dolphins in front of the Channel Nine cameras from 1.10pm.

With just five games remaining in the regular season, this is an important game for the second-placed Bears who need to win to hold off the chasing Wynnum Manly Seagulls and Townsville Blackhawks.

A loss on Sunday could see the Bears slip to third place on the competition ladder and put a potential home semi-final in jeopardy.

It’s an equally important game for the visiting Dolphins, who have revitalised their season after losing seven of the first nine games.

That run culminated in the last meeting between Burleigh and Redcliffe, with the Bears dishing out a 48-0 thrashing in Round 9.

The Bears were never challenged that day, with Josh Berkers and Troy Leo both crossing for doubles in the eight try rout.

Since then, the Dolphins have won six from nine games and currently sit inside the top eight with an opportunity to pull clear of ninth placed Ipswich if they can defeat the Bears on Sunday.

Burleigh, meanwhile, will be on the rebound after their five-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Townsville in their most recent appearance.

It was a slightly new looking Bears team that day, with Reece Tapine making his Cup debut on the wing and Tanah Boyd starting in the halves alongside Jamal Fogarty for the first time.

While the Bears were unsuccessful, the new additions made their mark with Boyd showing a willingness to engage the line from five-eighth by racking up a game-high 164 running metres.

The Bears host the Dolphins at Pizzey Park this Sunday afternoon from 1.10pm. The game will be broadcast live on Nine Gem.
