Burleigh Bears will wrap up second place in the Rugby League Gold Coast reserve grade competition if they can defeat the Mudgeeraba Redbacks this Saturday afternoon.
The Bears are two-points clear of third-placed Mudgeeraba, but the excellent for-and-against of the Redbacks means a Burleigh loss would see them finish the regular season in third place.
Burleigh can still mathematically claim the minor premiership, but they would need the ninth-placed Ormeau to pull off the upset of the year and beat Tugun.
The most likely scenario is that the Bears are destined for a major semi-final against either Mudgeeraba or Currumbin next week.
They come into this game on the back of consecutive wins over Southport and Helensvale but face a stern test in a Redbacks team who has won three in a row.
Their last encounter was in Round 14 where the Bears claimed a 34-12 victory. The reserve grade clash kicks off at Mudgeeraba Seniors from 4.30pm this Saturday afternoon, with the Under 20s taking the field at 3pm. A Grade has the bye.
