Bears to name Intrust Super Cup best team of 25 years.
As the annual Burleigh Bears Old Boys Reunion Day looms, the club has plenty to celebrate in 2021.
This year the Bears won’t only mark a 25 year milestone in the Intrust Super Cup (Queensland Cup), they will also celebrate 50 years of calling Pizzey Park home as well as the A-grade 1971 Grand Final.
To honour the clubs rich history, and celebrate its exciting future, the annual Old Boys luncheon will be held on Saturday July 3.
That’s not the only thing set for Pizzey Park that day, five game of rugby league including an ISC clash against Easts Tigers, as well as an A Grade match-up with the Tugun Seahawks.
The Bears entered the QLD Cup in 1997 and didn’t take long to become a powerhouse of the competition making the final series in its first year before winning its first premiership in 1999.
The club then went on to win premierships in 2004, 2016 and 2019 to be second behind Redcliffe in most premierships in Cup history.
To celebrate the Intrust Super Cup milestone, a 17 man team of the best players to wear the Maroon and White over the last 25 years in the Intrust Super Cup will be announced.
With 4 premierships and a number of quality players who have represented the Club over this period it will be a difficult task for the selection panel to finalise its team.
A selection criteria has been established to help with the naming of the team. To qualify for selection a player needs to have played 50 games in the ISC for Burleigh.
The list of players up for selection will be released over the coming weeks.
