The Burleigh Bears return to UAA Park on Saturday looking to strengthen their hold on a finals berth when they host the Wynnum Manly Seagulls in a fascinating Round 8 BMD Premiership clash.

The Bears have had two draws in a row and will be looking to change that to a win this week.

With the competition entering its business end, every point is becoming increasingly valuable, and both sides have plenty to play for. Burleigh will be eager to defend home turf and maintain its position among the competition’s front-runners, while Wynnum arrives determined to upset one of the BMD Premiership’s benchmark clubs.

The Bears have again showcased the depth of Queensland’s premier female pathways, blending experienced campaigners with exciting young talent. The Gold Coast club has built a reputation as one of the competition’s toughest home assignments, and another victory would further cement its standing heading towards the finals. The Bears’ balanced attack and defensive resilience have again made them one of the competition’s benchmark sides, while Wynnum has shown enough improvement this season to suggest they can match it with any opponent on their day.

Expect a physical opening 20 minutes as both forward packs attempt to establish dominance before the game’s speed increases around the middle. If Burleigh can control possession and field position, their strike weapons should have enough opportunities to capitalise. However, if Wynnum can complete strongly, limit errors and win the territorial battle, the Seagulls have the attacking talent to push the Bears all the way.
